IEG works with communities and other partners on community-led health and wellness studies. We collaborate with communities to design an appropriate research approach and research deliverables that help address concerns and questions the communities have about the health and wellbeing of their members. Our methods for this work include interviews, focus groups, surveys, field visits, traditional food sampling and analysis, documenting Indigenous knowledge, and through the use of mobile app survey technology. Our work has helped communities finds answers to questions such as:

  • Are the traditional foods in my territory safe to eat?
  • How is the mental and emotional wellbeing of members in my community?”
  • How much of a particular traditional food (e.g., moose) is safe for me to eat?
  • How effective has the response of the community health team been in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • What is the impact of industrial developments on my community’s health and wellbeing?
